Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Masterify ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Masterify iOS app (the "App"). It applies to the App only, not to any third-party services it uses (which have their own privacy policies).

We built Masterify to be a private, on-device experience. That guides every choice below.

2. What we collect

Content you create

The text passages, reading material, and audio recordings you add to the App. This content stays on your device unless you enable iCloud sync (Premium), in which case it's stored in your personal iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit.

Practice data

Your practice sessions, streaks, accuracy scores, reading history, and progress. Same rules as above — local unless you enable iCloud sync.

Preferences

App settings you choose (reading accent, reminder time, voice, etc.). Stored locally via Apple's UserDefaults.

Purchase information

If you purchase a subscription, our subscription vendor (Adapty) records a purchase receipt tied to a randomly-generated user identifier so we can verify your Premium status. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple.

Technical / diagnostic data

Firebase App Check verifies that requests to our audio backend come from a genuine copy of the App. Firebase and Apple may collect standard diagnostic data (crash reports, device model, OS version) if you have enabled Apple's diagnostics sharing. We do not collect analytics that identify you personally.

What we do not collect

• Your name, email address, or phone number
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA) — we do not display ads
• Location data
• Contacts, calendar, or other device data outside what you explicitly grant
• Your recordings, on any server we control

3. How we use information

We use the limited information we handle only to:

• Provide the App's core features (memorization practice, reading practice, progress tracking);
• Verify your Premium entitlement and process subscriptions through Apple and Adapty;
• Serve AI voice audio to Premium users through the Speechify backend;
• Prevent abuse of our audio backend via Firebase App Check;
• Diagnose and fix crashes and technical issues.

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information for marketing purposes. We do not build advertising profiles.

5. Third parties we use

Masterify relies on a small set of trusted third-party services. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Apple

iCloud/CloudKit sync (Premium), speech recognition (on-device), in-app purchases. Data handled per Apple's privacy policy.

Adapty

Subscription management. Adapty receives a random user identifier and purchase receipt data to verify Premium entitlement. See Adapty's privacy policy.

Firebase (Google)

Firebase App Check verifies our audio backend requests. Firebase Storage caches Premium AI voice audio. See Firebase's privacy policy.

Speechify

Premium AI voice generation. When a Premium user requests AI-narrated audio, the passage text is sent to Speechify to generate the audio. See Speechify's privacy policy.

6. Device permissions

The App requests these iOS permissions only when you use a feature that needs them, and only after asking:

• Microphone — to record your voice for reading practice and speech recall stages.
• Speech Recognition — to transcribe what you say. Transcription happens on-device.
• Camera — optional. To scan a page and pull out text you want to memorize.
• Photo Library — optional. To pull text from a photo instead of using the camera.
• Notifications — optional. For your daily practice reminder.

You can revoke any of these anytime in your device's Settings → Masterify.

7. Your rights and choices

Because we store almost nothing on our servers, you're in control:

• Delete your data — delete the App to remove everything on the device. If you use iCloud sync, sign in to iCloud.com or use your iPhone's Settings to remove the Masterify data from your iCloud account.
• Turn off sync — cancel Premium or switch off iCloud sync on your device; new changes will stop syncing.
• Cancel your subscription — anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
• Request information — if you're in a jurisdiction with data-subject rights (EU/UK, California, etc.), email us and we'll respond within the timeframes required by law.

8. Children's privacy

Masterify is rated 4+ and safe for users of all ages. We do not require an account, do not collect personal information from any user, and do not use analytics that identify individuals. Because we collect no personal data, no age-specific data protections (such as COPPA parental consent) apply. Parents are encouraged to supervise their child's use of the App.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security practices — HTTPS for all network requests, Firebase App Check to prevent unauthorized backend access, and Apple's platform security (Keychain, on-device encryption, App Sandbox) to protect data on your device. No system is 100% secure, but keeping personal data on-device by default limits the attack surface significantly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, notify you through the App or via other reasonable means before they take effect.
